Just curious if there's a stong leaning in the group towards Gnome or KDE .. and are there hidden benefits of one over the other ?

I used to use gnome. I had it configured to work the way I wanted,
with little on the screen and the panel unobtrusive.

And then the gnome folks decided to change everything. All the
configuration options I wanted were removed from gnome. Instead
of a single panel that I could shrink to a corner of the screen,
now there are two panels that each span the width of the screen.
Bah!

Meanwhile KDE had added some of the features that gnome was killing.
So I switched. KDE still annoys me at times. But I'm not about
to go back to gnome.

I like Linus' words: 'This "users are idiots, and are confused by
functionality" mentality of Gnome is a disease. If you think your
users are idiots, only idiots will use it.'
