The cheaper plastic ones tend to be more flaky in their
performance. What kind of drive did you put in it? What jumper
settings on the drive? Most prefer to be set at "master". If
it's a WD, don't go by the label and just turn the jumper
sideways. All other manufacturers the jumper goes closest to the
IDE cable.
From my earlier post to the group, you've got that it's a SYBA
enclosure, with PS and fan.
And the drive's a seacrate 40gig. It's the default drive that came with
my dell box. Replaced it before I even booted with an 80gig, so it's
been sitting unused on the shelf for two years now.
Weirdly, it's jumper setting is one over from the left (ide connector).
That's what it came with, so I just assumed that was the master
setting-- though it certainly didn't conform to the master settings as
printed on the drive.
