Well, Horst's /MBR suggestion (I think) got me by my Grub problem, but
now as I try and do FDISK and create a Primary DOS Partition I seem to
be in an endless "Verifying drive integrity" loop....
I said "I think" because when this booted last time I was trying to get
into the BIOS with DEL and F8 etc, so not sure if my keystrokes somehow
bypassed the problem or the trick actually fixed it...
Hey, at least I'm past the Grub error...

The Ubuntu/Grub MBR is still there. You need to use the MSDOS FDISK
switch that installs a new MBR.
Sorry, I don't know what the switch is.
The MBR or Master Boot Record is the first bit of software that your
computer executes off the hard disk when starting.
