I've not seen any "ugly" failures or heard of multi-day or even day-long outages for individuals' accounts -- and although I haven't been reading the blogosphere lately I am inclined to wonder if folks who have continued problems are really wrenching on their service somehow, or are refusing to do standard things like restart their browser, etc.
I *have* been noticing a few "web 2.0" oddities with AJAX-heavy sites when I switch between firefox tabs. Using 1.5.0.1 on linux. I'm not convinced that some AJAX isn't leaking data between tabs, which should be sandboxes AFAICT.

In the mean time it has been widely reported that access to gmail accounts
has been flaky the past two weeks. People have report they were locked out
of their accounts for two to three days at a time. google stated they were
working on the issue. Myself I have not experienced this but I have recently
observed much slower performance when accessing my gmail account.
