This is new stuff to me....
Anyone here happen to know about handheld scanners?
USB Human Interface Device
I'm trying to replace a notebook machine we use in inventory for pulling
parts off the shelf. Basically user scans in the order #, box gets
filled in and grid displays what to pull, then she walks up and down the
isles pulling the stuff and scanning against the barcode on the shelf.
There *can* be an issue where these scanners want to have a keyboard
inline with them before everything gets connected up to the computer.
I've tried this every which way I can think of.
The current machine works fine (well, it needs replacing but
functions)... trying to get this going on an IBM ThinkPad 600x doesn't
seem to work. Had another guy looking at this and he said there's
something specific about this ThinkPad that might require some adapter
or 'Y' splitter....
I called the manufacturer of the scanners and they said that things
should just work fine with using USB... *but* he did say this was under
Win2K or XP - I'm using Win98 on this thing.
I made sure I installed the HID stuff, can see it in Devices, and it
lists a driver which after double checking seems to be the latest
recommended by Windows.
When I attempt to scan, the scanner beeps, an hour glass appears (which
is normal), then nothing... it should echo back to the text box I'm
sitting in or the notepad doc I have open for testing. Nothing...
Any help out there?
