If you can find one of the older Diamond external USB modems, they work well. I used to own one, but gave it away. In retrospect, that probably wasn't a good move. Any of the modems you find that have a "controller" on them should work. The cheapest I've been able to find recently new is in the ~$40 range. The easiest way though would be to go to CRRC and see if you can dig one up. I bet they'd let them go cheap.
