It isn't so much as 'hiding' as being anonymous. Perhaps you register a domain for comedic purposes or to make complaint about something. Do you really want to be easily tracked down if someone is offended by your content? Then again, having an administrative contact via email is nice. I never did hear back from the owner of billgatesisgay.com though. Oh, the things you want to register after a long day of fixing Windows computers!
