The typical thing that I have used in the past is to use some
MRTG or cricket based tool for measuring the network.
It is at the network level however.
When I have had network problems, I have poked at the
stuff in /proc and created a log and then done analysis
over that.
What time frame are you thinking of?
What amount of detail are you thinking of?
What kinds of data are you interested in?
# packets
latency
collisions
# Streams/sessions
Traffic types
destination/source pairs
How will you know you have the right data?
