AMD problems? What have you been building with? I'm getting ready ro build a NEW box in the next several months and I'd like to know what you think I should avoid since I will be going with a Dual core Athlon64 setup.
All of the problems I've run into have been related to onboard ATI video or what I believe to be BIOS bugs that only happen in corner cases (see my reply to George for more details on that). In both cases, they feel like solvable problems, the companies involved (HP and ATI) just don't seem to interested in fixing them. Since you're building, it's easy to avoid onboard ATI video, and as long as you get a board from a solid manufacturer, BIOS bugs should be rare. Just about anything from ASUS, Tyan, or MSI will likely serve you well. There are others of course, those just happen to be my three favorites. When you get closer to the actual I'd love to chat about it with you. My housemate and I track the COTS component market pretty closely. Even though I don't do builds for work (takes too long, support / RMA is too much of a hassle, etc) all of my personal stuff is "hand crafted with love"... :D -- -Regards- -Quentin Hartman-
