Maybe you're watching the Blue Man Group? Have you checked that your VGA cable is still firmly plugged in? If your video card is old enough, you could use the free radeon driver. I've been mostly pleased with it on three different systems. Type "man radeon" for a detailed list of what cards/chips it supports.
