What sort of issues are you having on the 946GZIS? Mr Parker has the same motherboard. Originally tried to set him up with a DQ95GF which is (was) the flagship executive series board but the IDE was borked and SATA optical drives weren't that cheap yet. Personally I run the 975XBX2 which has been rock solid. That board is ICH7 though which means my IDE is native. ICH8 & 9 have moved the single IDE connector to a controller which only had experimental support at best when it was introduced. Using a SATA optical often negates any problems that would occur. Currently I've been fighting with the new ICH9 on a brand new board. I've only had two distros out of four successfully install. Even then I need to pass "acpi=off" to boot.
Also, I'd seriously consider a case upgrade anyway just to meet newer thermal requirements. Odds are your new power supply not only has that single SATA connector but also the yellow/black 4 pin 12 volt line required for nearly every new motherboard. That is really why it needed to be replaced. Using an adapter for the SATA isn't an issue but I wouldn't consider one for the 12 volt line. That be all, Mr O. --- marbux <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Which reminds that I've got a box laying on its back that > needs some > competent help.
