the sales people pushed the notion of Broadband + phone bundle for $66 (first year introductory,) but after I got to the Technician who would do the install it was 43 + 45 + 3 = $91 (+ $99 install.) This was after I stated "hey don't jerk me around, and just tell me what it costs, longterm."
I ended up going with Qwest, but they were just as bad about hidden cost, and misrepresenting the charges between different sales people. Not to mention my run-in with MSN the last time I got DSL. MSN smacked me with a $150 roaming charge on the first bill, though all I had was a DSL land-line; I duked it out with idiotic call center rep's for months, they seemed to be able to see less of my bill then I could on-line. I think that was just a dodge. They kept offering me a free month's service. Finally I said "NO THANK YOU!" Then I got a call a month later from a MSN rep, wanting to know why the call center rep "let me off the hook!" I feel sorry for those people in the call centers; they must be under a lot of pressure, to make up for technical shortcomings! For the record the Broadband speed is "you get what you pay for." Quest's 1.5 Mbps for $33 is actually less of a deal then the Comcast 6 Mbps for $60. I just didn't want to pay that much month to month. I'm sure Comcast is the better service and the delivery system, Co-axial vs phone wire is probably much more consistent. Maybe I'll switch when I start making some real money; if I live that long!
