If it's a PCI card, get its PCI ID. Here's how I looked up mine.

    $ lspci -nn | grep Audio
    00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8
    Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 02)

The PCI ID is that eight digit hex thing near the end: 8086:284b.

Feed that to Google.

    $ firefox http://www.google.com/search?q=ubuntu+8086:294b

(That query doesn't get any hits. But my sound card worked straight
off, so there probably wasn't much discussion.)
