Yea just set all video files to NTSC, and menu to NTSC, I made 1 more coaster but now have the Menu and all videos playing without rolling, and now using VLC in Ubuntu so it is working to. I forget Ubuntu is set for world users not just us US folks. That is still under a hour I think. Thanks Garl for helping.

No problem. Should have remembered about the PAL/NTSC switch... It burned me as well.

Thank you I am using devede now. it is easy to pick up.and the
test video was much clearer then on windows. It has taken about 30
minutes and I have a DVD with menu and three different menu items
with background sound I am converting to ISO. and the background
Picture I converted in Gimp to a png, burned ISO in brasero.all in
30 :) I still cant believe good programs like these are free.

So I put the DVD I created in the DVD player hooked to my TV and
play back was rolling Horz.sound was great and it would not play
back in Ubuntu so I picked the wrong format to convert video
to.but I was hurrying just to see how fast I could make a DVD with
    no knowledge of devede.And I have a nice coaster :) I bet if I
slow down a little I will get a working DVD LOL.

I used winders to make DVD moves with roxio from sporting
events I filmed. roxio 7 has a bug related to Internet
explorer 7 and I can not make dvds now and even though I
UN installed IE7 bug still there (and I bet so is
IE7uninstall just hides shortcuts ).I hate windows
(clinched teeth and fist) Anyway I always turn to a real
OS for help and that is Ubuntu :) just the name makes me
smile again. My camera makes AVIs .I was wondering if
anyone makes similar DVDs from a program in Ubuntu that
uses AVIs that can make menu with background PIC/sound and
            different titles?
Thanks in advance keep that Linux smile :)
I've used devede in the past to create DVDs. I know it does
menus with a background. Not sure on sounds as I'm away from
that machine at the moment. It's very simple and will convert
from about any format. The only issue I've seen is that
converting from avi to DVD the disk capacity estimation is
always off. Converting from MPEG to a DVD it's always dead on.
The UI is a bit funky, but I figured it out in a few minutes.
