I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and have an Intel wireless card. I can provide more details if needed.
Sorry for any terminology problems. I've only had the bugger for two weeks, and I have absolutely no one to talk with about it except you all and the chap what sold it to me, who's now moved. Basically what happened is this: at the top right end of what I think is called the task bar, I used to be able to pull down a menu and connect wirelessly to various servers about. The only server I ever actually used was Indras. I downloaded a few things and updated my system there on Monday evening. Tuesday, I attempted to log in, but couldn't do anything because the signal was too weak. I left it plugged in and idle near my work computer all day. It got kind of hot. I was running low on battery power and didn't shut down the computer when I stuffed it in my laptop bag, so the battery died while I ran some errands. I've had much worse happen to other computers, so I really didn't think twice about it. I tried to log on (wireless) after I was done with the errands, but now there is no option in the pull-down menu. The help section for wireless tells me to go to System > Preferences > Hardware Information, but on my rig, "Hardware Information " isn't an option in the pull-down menu. Any tips? Rx.
