Solar wind can be predicted from solar flare detections.  As for me, I 
wouldn't want to try and match speeds / etc for a billion dollar spacecraft, 
traveling in 3 dimensions, at extremely high rates of velocity.  Hey, I'd 
probably sneeze at a crucial moment or something, and scratch the paint.
