Your course work will be assisted by a fablab and biolab technician at SPACE10. *Who should take the course?* Our aim is to facilitate a vibrant peer-to-peer learning setup where we explore the basics of biotechnology in a do-it-yourself setting. The BioHack Academy at SPACE10 aims to bring enthusiasts, specialists and generalists together to innovate with living systems. As such, participants can be from any background or discipline. Cooks, farmers, biologists, researchers, engineers, designers, architects, bartenders, urban planners – the BioHack Lab is open! *What will you make?* You will learn how to design, grow and extract your own biomaterials using only Open Source hardware that you fabricate yourself, with assistance from the teaching team. Whether it’s a new type of bio ink, bio polymer or bio fuel, we’ll show how you how to grow it and share the results with others. You will make the equipment you need to run your experiments and use an organism from our collection to produce biomaterials such as pigments, cellulose, algae, fuel and more. During weekly lectures you will also learn the basics of biotechnology, 3D design, digital manufacturing, programming and electronics.
