hoi zäme,

i guess we will finally see much more of these spaces popping up at
universities. which should be a good thing! more student oriented non-class
non-graded environements, interdisciplinary environments etc..
just recently MIT hosted the 1st conference on "academic" makerspaces.
https://project-manus.mit.edu/home/conference
http://news.mit.edu/2016/makerspace-makerworks-students-0623

and even eth zurich is setting up one these days, as pilot. to be 2 x 900m2
by 2018!
https://www.ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/education/sph.html

or in munich... also about to set up a biolab.
https://www.unternehmertum.de/makerspace.xhtml

they all write "student initiative - self-run environments"... reality
might be different though :-) top-down initiatives, highly regulaterd and
non-accessible outside of "workhouts" "heavy security issues and stuff...
so no worries. all talented students will still flock to the more open and
creative hack/bio-labs.

greetings from tokyo,
marc
