Love that story. Sigh, if you came to my place it would go something like
this:

I just arrived back from vacation in Edmonton and had an opportunity to
visit Mike's EV workshop at nearby Hastings Lake. The house is on a
beautiful lake, a foot and a half low this summer because of the drought,
the beach scummy with mud and dried up weed. We saw pelicans and
cormorants, and purple martins swooping around. The garage is an amazing
array of clutter - discarded furniture, junk hardware and scattered
tools. There is a faint odor of rodent nest. Some of the insulation has
fallen out of the rafters from the weight of squirrels and mice. Indeed,
we saw a mouse scurrying across the floor while we were there. Not a place
for someone worried about Hanta virus. Dominating the garage is the
skeletal remains of a Citroen D. Body parts are balanced on the top of the
frame, piled up in the loft or covering the back of the frame. There is a
coating of dust on everything - pollen from Alder and Poplar trees,
according to Mike, blown in under the door. The engine compartment is the
only relatively neat place. A big Kostov sits in the engine bay, painted
electric blue, attached to the polished tranny by a beautifully machined
adapter plate from Randy Holmquist. Mike drove the tranny out to Errington
to get the adapter plate, and came back with all the electric parts.

Mike's favorite phrase when he is working on the project is from Star Trek:
"I'm a DOCTOR, not a mechanic"

... I could be the poster boy for the rest of us, muzzy headed guys with
little knowledge of metalworking, ten thumbs and a few hand tools. But I
have to get the ev grin first. My most common expression these days is
the "ev puzzled look".
