Jerry- The merc I have has a 1:2 reduction in the lower unit. Engine RPM was ~5000 for 7.5 (rated) hp. I think I can get similar peak specs from the motor I have. (0.93 hp at 27V continuous at 65C) 72V looks right for 2.7x voltage and current, for a little under 7 hp. I have 24 and 48V controllers right now, so I am in the 3-4hp range for the moment.
Unfortunately it has an overrunning clutch as I just found out, so regen charging in the current will be more difficult. I haven't tested if engaging reverse gear will fix this yet. The boat and motor are free so I can't complain about the price/performance ratio :) I would love a party barge, but it will have to wait. Seth
