I don't think we should condemn the manufacturers for 'deserting' the projects. After all, they haven't said no to eco-friendly transporation. Playing around with BEVs will be cheaper compared to testing with FCs or Solar panels. Which is why many, almost all on the list, are working on BEVs. What they (the big guns of the auto industry) are doing is may be learning and improving the road worthiness of EVs (EVs implies all in the family of electric powered vehicles). Once the powertrain is finalised, power pack is to be modified!! In fact, it would be beneficial to abort production of BEVs (if at all any) at an early stage, for they might lose potential FCV and HEV buyers.
