Just a quick response before my wife and I head out the door this morning, hop in the
Insight, and take a much needed vacation somewhere.

Rich is right, no 12's for Plasma Boy :-( My battery pack is comprised of a mix of 3
and
5 year old Hawkers, and the batteries are pretty much done as far as delivering high
power
these days. Knowing this, I put together the 'Wayland Blast Pack' of an extra set of 6
batteries under the hood to get 408V of battery power, with the blast pack kicked in
via a
bad-ass Bubba contactor. Had the batteries been at full power, I'm pretty sure the car
would have been solidly in the 12's. I had the 'Zilla programmed for 750 battery amps,
but
the poor Hawkers could only muster a max reading of just about 600 amps, falling lower
after that peak. Hitting the button at around the 1/8th mile marker though, did give a
rude shove into the seat, but that big pulse of power unfortunately, quickly eroded as
the
battery amps sagged way down again. A fresh set of Hawkers, or a new set of SVR
batteries
would really make for a power-packed run...I think I like 408 volts!

Oh well...even with pooped out batteries, I did manage a best ET of 13.858 @93.86 mph,
and
the car still has a killer launch...even with the rear tires dropped way down to single
digit pressures, there was a bit of wheel spin. The 1/8 the mile time was still fairly
good at 8.779 at over 80 mph. The pack was getting REAL hot, and I felt another run
might
have yielded a mid 13 seconds ET, but then a bit of sensibility came over me, and I
realized that to do so, would probably have blown one of the very hot batteries,
leaving
me with a broken car, so I passed on making the run and left the track not having
broken
anything for a change.

Perhaps the most exciting run of the day for me, was my wind-in the-hair, adrenaline
pumping, 19 mph, 50+ second 1/4 mile rush with the Hansen's 1908 Olds replica EV 'Time
Machine'! The most fun, non-timed drive though, was again, piloting Bill Bruder's wacky
'Wind Wagon', the prop-driven wind car that now hits 39 mph!

More later when I get back......

See Ya.......John 'Plasma Boy' Wayland
