Well, we popped a couple of batteries on the first run, and bettered are
previous time with this battery pack, but we did not manage to get the bike
down into the 10's :^( as I had hoped. Our best ET was 11.08.

The traction was quite good and the new controller worked perfectly. We
got better 60 ft times than we ever had before. I was hesitant to turn up
the battery current after the first run, however. We popped two batteries
and I only had one more spare, so I set the battery current to a very
conservative value, severely limiting the peak HP that the bike would produce.

We definitely have made big improvements in the launch with the new
controller. We have some dialing to do and it is possible we may even make
further improvements. Our best 60 ft time at this event was 1.44. On the
next run I dialed up the motor amps (torque) to 1500 amps each (about 365
ft-pounds for each motor). I also dialed back the throttle ramp-up rate
slightly. I think this was my mistake. We smoked the tire badly off the
line. I assumed the torque was coming on a bit quickly and not giving a
chance for the bike to fully squat and dig in. It turns out that the bike
was rotating just about right (looking at the videos.)

It was major fun to see that 11 inch slick bark as the bike shot off the
line. Nothing is quite as satisfying as churning out over 700 ft-lbs (with
more in reserve). I was very pleasantly surprised to see the motors take
1500 amps without any damage whatsoever. I don't think anyone has crammed
this many amps into a 6.7 inch Advanced DC motor before.

I plan to twiddle with the bike and perhaps tune up the battery pack in
the next few days. Then we'll make a few runs at Bandimere. Perhaps I'll
hook up the data acquisition system for these runs. It will be useful to
work on the launch and 60 ft times, even though we are not doing much on
the back half of the track (because we are not getting major HP out of the
present battery pack.)

Still working on getting better batteries. :^)
