Don't know if this is still a problem or not.
I had to deal with a leaky high pressure line on a
diesel engine once... We sailed into Rochester with an
engine compartment that had been sprayed with diesel
from this little pinhole leak through this high
pressure (?) hose. The hose had a metal mesh jacket
outside cover.
We searched all over Rochester for a replacement
part. Finally had to settle for a part to be shipped
by courier from NYC.
In the meantime, we *repaired* the piece of hose
we had, and it took us across the Lake just fine.
Basically, we wrapped the hose with
self-amalgamating plastic tape, then "whipped" the
thing with small stuff... ie we wrapped the hose with
strong/small cord. Sailors call this "parcelling and
serving" when they use this approach to provide a
protective jacket for ropes, against abrasion.
The Skipper swapped out our repaired hose for a
new one, but kept the repaired hose as a spare.
If there is something wrong or dangerous about
this approach to beefing up a high pressure line, then
I hope someone here will correct me. But it sure saved
our little sailing trip. (No wind on the last day, so
we motored eight hours steady on our "shakedown" for
the repaired hose)
