Hi Mark, Look for something called Zud, next to the Comet cleanser at the supermarket. It's for removing metallic stains. I believe the active ingredient is oxalic acid, which removes iron oxide pretty effectively. As a side note, I tried it on a penny after David Brandt mentioned it might work well as a deoxidizer for copper. I mixed it with a little water to make a paste and let the penny soak for a few minutes. All the oxidation vanished, and there was no evidence it had dissolved any of the base metal. When I start making up cables I'm going to get some 5% oxalic acid from a chemical supplier and do some experiments. Maybe making crimp connections with truly oxide-free surfaces will improve reliability? Chris
