Fair Radio surplus in Lima Ohio use to sell what most of us know
as the Fair charger. I have two on my shelf(backups) that I used
before I got my PFC 20. Fair no longer has this charger in stock
but they do have just the transformers.

I think you want to build your own for the learning experience.
Your cost is not going to be much cheaper than
buy one ready to go..

You can buy at Sear for $89.99 a DieHard Model 200.

the specs are 12 or 24 volts
20amp/12 volts, 15 amp/24 volts, 10 amp/ 12-24 volt, 2 amp/ 12-24
volt
Auto/manual/Maintainer setting
regular/Deep Cycle/Gel Cell setting

If you just want to get it done this work fine.
