I got past/around my charging problem (NG5 "timing out" in 2nd stage of
charging) by fooling the Zivan...I added a second set of start/stop
switches to my charging circuit timer, so now when I check in on it
early in the morning, it is routinely in finish mode, and I can either
shut it off, or allow it to run on through.
Reading about Andrew's problem with the MR2 (remember the discussions at
the time this EV was being built about battery accessibility? Remember
the discussions about the deadness of batteries after their being left
discharging/uncharged for much too long?)
I typically never see my pilot batteries (the 2 buddy pairs that I
monitor during driving) drop below 11.5 volts under load until I have
driven over 20 miles. If I was seeing 10.5 volts routinely, I would
think that I was looking at some pretty weak YTs...and forget 5 to 8
volts, they are dead, dead, dead.
I actually have been wondering if I am discharging my pack enough before
charging.
Any thoughts?
