Hybrid truck to debut CHATTANOOGA - A Chattanooga company
already producing battery-powered buses has developed a
hybrid-electric delivery truck it hopes to market in urban
areas.
Advanced Vehicle Systems Inc. will debut the 27 1/2-ton
truck at an electric vehicle forum in Chattanooga next
week.
The truck runs on batteries, which are supplemented by a
natural gas-powered turbine producing "ultra low" emissions,
said Rick Hitchcock, president of AVS.
The truck already has a customer, which Hitchcock declined
to name. The price will depend upon the number of trucks
produced, he said. AVS, which employs more than 120 people,
will hire more workers if the truck does well, officials
said.
