I am NOT going to make this a gender thing, as I know counterexamples on
both sides. But yes, I loved the fact that my ICE VW Rabbit had a gas
gauge that was dead-on accurate: When it got down to E, the engine began
to sputter and choke.

SWMBO likes the "reserve" our Chrysler (ice) gives her - when it hits E,
there's a gallon and a half left to get you to the next refuel. But we
count on that too much, have cut it very close at times, and have been
stranded more than once...

I wouldn't mind it if it worked like the really early Beetles - the
range meter would reach zero at, say, 20% SOC, and you would have to
physically throw a switch or something to discharge it any further. I
would locate the "extended discharge switch" under the hood...
