Looks like a lot of people have chimed in on this thread...

Regarding Deka batteries, I've heard that the reason their floodies
are less expensive is because they do there own recycling, whereas
Trojan, etc., buy from the "worldwide" lead supply. And regarding
buying from auto supply stores, I once got a good deal on a pack of
Orbitals. They matched an Internet price and didn't charge for
shipping.

I'm wondering if Sunbelt Battery is still around down your area? The
owner, Jesse James, was involved with EV racing back in the '90's and
also did some conversions.
