I am a fan of LiFePO4 batteries. They are lighter in weight than their NiCd
(NiMH) counterparts. They also have a higher stored energy density than
almost any other technology. Unfortunately, they don’t have the amount of
history in autos that the Ni-based rechargeable batteries have. That means
their reliability may be in question. However, current (2013) electric,
hybrid and plug in hybrid vehicles are using this technology. The
manufacturers have apparently figured out how to create a battery management
system that will allow LiFePO4 to have 8 years or 100,000 miles of
warrantee. That is quite respectable when you consider that most 12V lead
acid batteries supplied in new vehicles never make it to 5 years. Sears
Diehard counts on that for their business profit. You can personal e-mail
me for more information. pwp1943 at gmail dot com. I would like to discuss
some other items concerning your rebuild.
