You need to really think through your plans. I used 8850 18650 cells from
Panasonic to build a conversion in 2002, the first Li-ion powered car with a
35kw pack. It was a nightmare during the planning stage. I used the 18650
cells that had tabs, which made it a lot easier to connect. After driving
the car with a range still to be determined, I was offered $$ for the
battery pack from a new forming company called T____. The real problem is
that you should use a BMS at cell level, which wasn't available at the time
I designed and built the pack. It was a good experience and I learned a lot
before the information was available from others. Buy the cells from
Japanese, either Sanyo or Panasonic, without the built-in electronics, WITH
TABS. Lots of luck.
