This has been going on since the invention of the auto mobile , gas, steam, early electrics, diesel, even the space shuttle burned up, and that was because of AIR !! Its in the news wires because ,I think the media is against the EV market , in the 70 & 80s pick -up trucks that were in crashed on the drivers side always caught fire .!! school buses too. Pintos ALWAYS caught fire when hit in the rear. You could stop the fries by accidents by surrounding the battery pack or fuel tank with 1/2 inch steel plate .your NEVER going to see that . Usually a lead acid battery thats old will explode , when its gassing, when the owner tries to jump the battery the wrong way ,,connect the jumpers to the dead battery first, then the good battery.
