Probably so, but you wouldn't own the Leaf.  I saw what happened with the GM 
EV1 and Honda EV-plus. I will never trust an automaker with an EV lease.

Renault is leasing the battery for their Zoe.  But I guess that's different 
from what you're talking about.

I wouldn't lease an EV, but I probably WOULD lease its battery.  If they 
refused to renew the lease and took it away as GM and Honda did with their 
leased EVs, I could still hack in a different battery and keep using the EV.

You'll ALWAYS be money ahead to do that.  When you lease, there's profit for 
the leasing company figured into the equation.  

But EV batteries are expensive.  Paying ~$100 a month evens out the cost for 
the person who lives paycheck to paycheck.  And as a bonus, if the battery's 
capacity falls below a guaranteed level, you get another battery without 
having to cough up several thousand dollars.
