Hi Folk's,
Jerry made the www.evalbum.com/2749 cat that I added the electric guts to, I
took a 9.9hp johnson & put an Etek-Rt on at 48V with 100ah of T-Sky LiFePO4 for
a max speed of 7mph for about 5 hours or 35 miles. The displacement hull type
cat is the most efficient for HP (like ocean going ships) but must stay at or
below the hull speed that's 1.3 x the square root of the hull length. At 18
feet it's about 7 mph.
So you can't H2o ski behind it so I ended up selling it on Ebay to a guy in
Wisconsin & bought a aluminum 1200lb 6.5 x 16' Starcraft and put a
www.hondamarine.com lean burn BFP60 on and H2o slalom-ski for about 6-8 hours
using 5 gallons of gas (instead of 20gal like most fiberglass 3600lb glug-glug
boats). There's electric speedboats made in Europe I found but + $30k and run
like a bat out of hell for 30 minutes H2o skiing. Essentially you have a
gallon of gas stored in batteries and plowing through the water with a planing
hull is not an efficient process. The best hull is a Cat for electric but is
you want to H2o ski or get around a large lake quickly the best set-up is a
lightweight alum hull with a lean burn Honda or similar.
