Tom, You can loosen and re-torque, but you can't measure loss of torque. Some joints will slip and give, some will give up quick, some may grab, and they may have both been torqued the same.
If you follow good joint design, fastener selection, and torque to specs - a joint will not loosen. For an "unknown design" I would not suggest using the higher grad bolt specs. You don't know the class of fit/engagement so you would risk stripping the tapped holes, And aluminum is fiddly. Better to assume 50% engagement. That should work just fine.
