After 7 1/2 years and 27,000 miles of faithful service, my 1987 VW
Cabriolet conversion is finally starting to fall apart. Here are some of
its current issues:
* Parking brake not very strong
* Small hole in top layer of convertible top
* Cracked weather stripping around driver/passenger windows
* Seat padding worn through to metal frame
* Need to replace passenger seat belt
* Intermittent odometer
* etc.
In addition, my kids are getting bigger and won't fit into the back seat
much longer. One is still in a front-facing car seat with 5 point harness,
but the older one has just the OEM lap belt. And I don't think this car
ever had a 5-star crash rating :)
I could:
1) Move the Thundersky cells to my Toyota Truck EV while I build a new
conversion, or
2) Sell/part-out both EVs and purchase a (used) Leaf or PIH.
I've wanted to sell the truck for a while now - it's no longer practical
with 2 growing passengers. So I'm leaning towards option 2 *IF* I can find
a good home for my EVs (or their parts).
The Toyota Truck:

Warp 11" motor, Zilla 1k, Manzanita PFC-20, Zivan NG1 600W DC/DC, and 25
struggling golf cart batteries. Recently redone headliner, carpet, and
seat upholstery. Custom leaf springs & heavy duty torsion bars for the
extra weight.
The Cabriolet:

Impulse 9" motor, Zilla 1K, Manzanita PFC-20 charger, industrial 700W
DC/DC and a 2-year-old pack of 38 160AH Thundersky cells that are still
going strong.
If I end up doing another conversion, what are some good donor/glider
options? I'm not looking for another convertible. I love my small car!
Easy to drive, park, and make U-turns. I don't need A/C, but at least 1
cup holder would be nice. My main concern is with all the electronics in
the newer cars. Can I get the instrument cluster working? The anti-lock
brakes? Security system/keyless entry?
My current preference would be a 2005 or newer Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, or
Ford Focus. Any other suggestions?
Adrian
