? Will EV-racing in the future lack drivers ?

(My initial post was first concerned how autonomous-driving would affect EV
racing. No one responded to that. Now, the topic has focused on self-driving
vehicles in the public sector)

As I posted, I think it is a mixed bag of positives (safety), and negatives
(the loss of human 'driving enjoyment'). The question will be played out
more fully at a later time when autonomous-driving or auto-drive is the
norm, and it will be included in vehicles.

ev-blue.com has stated they really have no desire to have or use an
auto-drive mode. If we look at their part of the country/world

There isn't much humanity to be concerned or complain about. If I lived
there, I might think the same.

Who would use the mode would likely depend on how dense the population is
where they live (both in body count and in intelligence).

Those that have posted they would not mind having the option of an
autonomous mode, are likely in the areas of the county/world where there
just so/too many people. If we look at Los Angeles, CA, see

with wall to wall humanity on the roads, the 'fun' has been drained out of
the 'joy of driving'. When I see automaker ads that show their vehicle
zoom-zooming off into the distance on a long road without a hint of traffic,
I laugh (you aren't going to find that here. Traffic is almost 24/7).
Automaker ads are selling a dream/fantasy (buy this car and your troubles
are over, etc.).

To show what I am thinking another way, I reference to popular entertainment
for examples.

In Death Race 2000, little race cars run-over people to acquire points

Some people change when they get behind a steering wheel, and take on the
persona of a driver in that game. Having their car in auto-drive would take
that insane temptation away from the human = less accidents + would save
lives.

In Demolition Man, see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlpPR_GgwEc
In the clip, the vehicle is in auto-drive mode, later switched via voice
control to self-drive mode (the human is driving).

More and more automakers are offering self-parking and auto-drive modes.
They may not be voice controlled like in the (above) clip, but the driver
could let the vehicle handle the mundane chore of getting from point A to B
each day in a sea of other humans all doing the same thing at the same time.

Already in the works are inter- communication/cooperation between vehicles
so that traffic flows more smoothly: merges will be communicated instead of
human-head-games being played, cutting other people off that causes others
to slam on the brakes will be reduced, lane changes before exits would be
orchestrated so they are polite and not missed, traffic jammed-up off the
highway can be by-passed when alternate routes/exits are taken because
vehicles have been altered, the unlicensed (i.e.: the elderly) could be
driven to the store, and the vehicle would know by smart-communicating
parking spaces, which ones were open for the vehicle to self-park in, etc.

Because of this vehicle-communication-ability or even just
vehicle-driving-logging that is tagged with a GPS and a date & time stamp,
the police would end up finding out who has been naughty and nice (who has
conformed to the will of the ant colony). Of course knowing that when a
driver steps out of bounds of the law, they 'will' be reported and 'have to'
pay the penalty, could deter some drivers and have them calm down and just
let the auto-drive get them there (their mental justification: its cheaper
that way, etc.).
