The electrical grid will be one of the first to die from excessive
voltage and current through the *long* wires that catch a lot of the
signal - just like in the old days with telegraph, where in times of
high solar activity, some telegraph equipment would catch fire and other
would work even with their batteries disconnected.

BTW, modern electronics is not only sensitive, but also frequently every
well shielded, so you'd need a *very* high energy pulse to destroy it.
Since the wiring in a car is relatively short and well-shielded due to
the need to remove the local interference (either dozens of kiloVolts
sparks generated in the engine or hundreds of Amps of current running
through the electric motor). This could mean that even during hefty
solar activity your car radio will only produce static and OnStar and
your GPS will not work, but your car will drive normally otherwise.

For the home converters who want to be prepared for the worst - even if
you like the smoothness of an electronic controller, you can still add a
rudimentary contactor controller in parallel that will always be able to
bring you home, whether your controller decides to let the smoke out or
the sun acts up beyond what the electronics can take.

I only hope that by that time I have my solar panels installed,
otherwise my EV will be sitting in the garage not because it is damaged
but because it cannot charge from the grid....

Its a long way to Tipperary. How do I know this, I have been a student
of Astronomy for about 50 years. And theres no argument aginst this, its
already happened .. So the new Cadillac EV, tha'ts nothing more than a
very expensive Volt , that cost 80,000$ sits in the drive way as a
planter now

And pretty much EVERY conversion on the road is Dead as well. All but a
VERY VERY FEW use an electronic controller - which has a computer in it.
