The name translates to “ultimate” in Japanese and there’s a good reason to believe that the bike discards conventions and is quite extreme, especially for a nascent electric-vehicle market such as India. Terra has made a clear overture indicating its interest in India. Not only is the company going to exhibit its bikes and scooters at the 2014 India Auto Expo next month, but it also plans to launch these products and set up an office in the country. The Japanese company will also showcase three-wheelers at the Auto Expo. The Terra Kiwami which is unrivaled in the Indian market not for what it offers, but for the way in which it does. The 1000cc bike, which is complete hand-built by the way, produces 10 kilowatts of power, which translates to about 13hp. The electric superbike takes 6 hours to get charged fully, and can go 200kms before having to stop for a top up. Terra positions the Kiwami as an urban commuting alternative without the emissions and pollution. At a price of 18 lakhs, it is a costly price to pay for keeping ones carbon footprint in check. However, the exorbitant rate cannot be credited to only the company, the government could introduce subsidies which can result in the price reducing considerably. As far as styling goes, the Terra Kiwami looks like an art installation made of thermocol. But with a top speed of 160kmph, the bike is obviously made of sturdier materials. The headlights look particularly distinct, with the two circular lights being stacked one on top of the other. The rider’s seat is positioned low and the pillion’s is in conjunction with it but swoops upwards in the rear. The Japanese brand is looking to create a network of showrooms in India. For this purpose, the Japanese manufacturer is on the look out for professionals experienced in running dealerships and handling customer interactions. Besides the Kiwami, Terra has plans of introducing a suite of premium e-scooters in India. CEO of Terra Motors, Toru Tokushige, revealed that the company is investing 30 Crore rupess in India. They hope to sell 10,000 units of their scooters by the close of the next fiscal.
