<soapbox on><rem could be considered OT, but is EV related> When I posted the above, I knew not many would view it and likely consider it just another EVSE post. But there is some serious pollution going on in London, UK right now (all of which is documented in the above post). Those people in cities that just have not experienced how bad pollution can get, can not relate. While yes there are a couple major cities in N. America with pollution, there are cities around the world are in serious trouble, see http://www.world-nuclear-news.org/uploadedImages/wnn/Images/WHO%20air%20pollution%20map.jpg So much so, everyone wears a mask, see https://www.google.com/search?q=pollution+face+masks&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=x7E9U_jtAuaNygH0mIHQBw&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ on the street, at work, children, ... a situation that would be considered totally unacceptable by U.S. standards ( ... but it is coming). Some might say, OK Bruce, is this another one of your 'The sky is falling' posts of gloom and doom? My point is that there are so many that are so ignorant of what is happening, and in denial of 'what happens out-there' will ever affect them. Personal experience: Years ago in the '70's when I was stationed near Taipei, ROC, the pollution wasn't good. I was lucky to have my Air Base high up on a mountain-top surrounded by tea and peanut fields, where after a daily topical rain, the air was once again fresh and clear. But when I made a return visit there ~10 years later, it was like what you see in images of Asian pollution, see http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/140130160139-most-polluted-city-story-top.jpg http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/30/travel/most-polluted-city/ http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/delhi-world-s-most-polluted-city-india-slips-in-green-index/article1-1177777.aspx When you finally get home, you are still coughing up an acid gunk out of your lungs, blowing black stuff out off your nose, and are in serious need of a bath/shower to detoxify the skin on your body. And Taipei is not one of the worst major cities, see http://static5.businessinsider.com/image/50f6e5fc69bedd9821000004-595-531/20130119_woc790.png Our N. American, and Aussie/NZ cities really don't have the pollution that the other cities shown have. And why is that? Population density, geographical differences (wind blows it all away to some other smuck's backyard), and Governmental pollution controls (perhaps when the next ice-head gives you grief for trying to save the planet, remind them of the tailpipe pollution they cause). London's current pollution crisis is a combination of red African desert dust, and local pollution, plus their city's bowl effect (much like L.A., Bakersfield, Mexico-City, etc.) that keeps the pollution from moving to somewhere else. Newswires state they hope London's pollution will be reduced by Friday. But where will it go? And what natural mechanisms are there to capture it or wash it into the environment? African dust may seem pretty far away from London to affect it, but those in N. America that know their history, will remember the affect of the dust bowl in the center of the U.S. that was reaching major east coast cities, like N.Y., Wash D. C., see http://blogs.weta.org/boundarystones/sites/blogs.weta.org.boundarystones/files/Dust-Storm-on-Lincoln_4x3.jpg A dust storm from the Midwest blew into Washington in 1935, darkening the skies ... http://digital.library.okstate.edu/encyclopedia/entries/d/images/DU012B.jpg Aussies have had their own dust storms: http://cdn.rsvlts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/qPCUm-630x350.jpeg http://www.rsvlts.com/2013/page/105/ Freakish Australian Dust Storm [12 HQ Photos] 16 January 2013 By posting this message, I hope to increase people awareness of severe changes that can and will affect them. Sadly, it is only those that complain the most about EVs, are the first to seek a 'quick-fix' when these issue happen them locally. EVs are the pollution solution for cities with high populations experiencing tailpipe pollution and or are in fragile environments (desert, etc.). </ soapbox off> {brucedp.150m.com} -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/The-EV-solution-to-reduce-London-s-current-smog-pollution-dust-tp4668784.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
