Hi David and All, You are correct likely for a new balanced battery set started at exactly the same charge. But after a while the differences will get larger and I'll likely be using used Leaf cells made into 100-200amphr packs which may work with only 100ma load on the highest cell, it seems marginal over time..
If you only have 1 cell of it might work but 2 or more of the many cells cuts it's balance ability by 50% or more. So I'd rather have at least 1-5 amp preferably a DC to DC to help the lowest, not cut the highest. Please give them a try and let us know how they work. I might still use them if nothing else pops up like them in a higher rating and they work for someone else. Was thinking about using their signal to trigger a higher load but trying to get the signal/cell l would destroy the sense voltage that I can figure out thought I'm not that good at electronics anymore as I learned in the analog era.. My present idea is bottom balance at say 2.5vdc, then charge to 95% amphr rating, discharge to 10% max, mostly keeping between 20% and 90% charge. Does this sound right? Please edit this as I can't with yahoo mail. In 2 hrs I should know if I can get the front end crashed Leaf EV at auction. If I can't I have friends that can. Unless you have some defective cells and/or an unbalanced load on the pack very little, if any, balancing is needed. My TS pack hasn't been balanced since July 12, 2011 and is still in line. -- David D.
