Personally, I do not care for gull-wing doors. Though not as attractive, I
like side sliding doors, like the side door on a van (I go for functionality
more than looks).

Even though the negative gull-wing door points posted are valid, there must
be a reason for Tesla to go with them on the Model-X. Looking at other
vehicles having that type of door
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gull-wing_door
and the TV commercial I just saw about a Mercedes ice model that had that
type of door, it might be a point of looks/fashion rather than practicality
('we want to look chic/cool/hip/affluent').

I found it interesting that an organization like ieee would be yakking about
chic, rather than the technical stuff engineers are known to gravitate to
(?).

IMO, I would have rather seen Tesla by-pass the X, and focus on the lower
priced (more-affordable) model (formally refereed to as Model-E). But that
is just me being practical again. Tesla must be making good money on their
higher end models, as their people/staff have shown they know what they are
doing.

(afk: I am off to waste the day at the VA in a wheel-chair, feed the
blood-draw vampires, pay for more deleterious medications that I must but do
not like taking, yak to a non-doctor/nurse about the rat-poison (warfarin
anti-clot med) I am on, and hopefully still leave it in time to be
pushed/shuttled to my ice ... Oh what fun! )
