The world's first Ladies First dealership opened its doors in the Tokyo suburb of Fuchu on Friday last week (June 20), but Nissan Australia says it has no plans to launch similar female-friendly showrooms here. Nissan describes the Ladies First showroom as a pilot dealership led by women with the aim of making car buying more welcoming and easier for members of the fairer sex. But Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is quoted in this official YouTube video as saying the company will transform hundreds more female-oriented dealerships. "We're going to go up to 300 stores like this in Japan as a first step," he said. "Frankly, depending on the results we may go further." A direct response to research that shows 65 per cent of new vehicle purchases are decided by women, the concept involves a female-focussed overhaul in both dealership design and services. "The showroom is now much brighter than the previous version," said LEAF owner Hiroko Yamaguchi in the video. "I brought a Nissan LEAF so it's great that I can charge my EV here while I feed my baby. And older children can play in the kids' corner. I like the atmosphere very much." Nissan says the move – which comes after the establishment of larger, pink-painted parking spaces reserved exclusively for women in the South Korean capital of Seoul last month – also aims to bring female customers from other brands. "The intention is to get more non-Nissan customers into the showroom," said Nissan Fuchu Branch Manager, Masayo Maruyama. "That's the model concept of the Ladies First dealer outlet. And it would be great if we can get more women to purchase cars from this dealership."
