Nit picking here. But 50% is not quite "mostly".

And "recovered" is one thing, but storing it chemically in a battery is
another, and then converting that chemistry back to electricity is
another, and converting that electricity back to mechanical is another,
and then transferring that mechanical back to the tires, and then back to
the road is yet another.  Putting some estimates on those might be the
original 50% multiplied by 90% * 90% * 95% *95% and we end up with only
36%.

Notice I  used 90% into the battery and 90% out to give a net 81% battery
efficiency (to match the 80% claimed by some EV's).  Others are just
guesses.

Though the debate will rage for a week is my guess...
