So, all year long the automakers who have been using the media (and other forms of public-attack) to get their CARB carbon-credit reaping vehicle-sales accomplished, now seem to be taking this end-of-the-year time to reap their totally-ice profits.
I say that because as you have seen in the type of newswires I have been posting, they are not 'that-great' when compared to the first half of the 2014 year. Its like a time of year for automakers to slow-down/not-bother promoting the plugin vehicles (mainly pih, and some EVs) to get the carbon credits they need to now focus on the ice-market that makes the most profits for them. That, and in my daily flood of unwanted USPS junk mail (the US Postal System gets paid to deliver 'presorted' junk postal mail into everyone's postal mailboxes), I got a large heavily-painted ( Ahh, the smell of chemicals on paper from NW forest wood-pulp that makes it harder to recycle) 'presorted' junk-mail envelope from Nissan. Now, I have the greatest respect for all of Nissan's dedicated-Leaf-EV good-deeds, but come-on-now ... (a slanted grimace on my face) This junk mail is directly targeting ice-only sales. It had a heavy-paper (almost card quality) pages for ice-models: versa, pathfinder, rogue, sentra, and actima. Other than possible future EV-conversions, I really have no interest in these. So, how hard would it have been to squeeze in an additional page that would have touted their plugin models (both the current Leaf EV, and perhaps informing of their coming pih)? Well, after seeing what an ice-sales piece-of-work this was, while having to endue the nasty chemical (paint) smell, I relegated it to the outside recycle pile. The only good thing I can say is at least the letter did not have a plastic window that makes it even harder to recycle. Folks, this slow-down in plugin promotion is likely going to happen each year. Their thinking is likely: once the automakers get their credits, its time to get as much ice profits as possible. Then we (the EV-community) get to the whole "we are so Green' ad campaign all over again at the beginning of the following year ... repeat ( = this pattern is going to an annual cycle). Perhaps automakers think the public is so dumb they will not notice their pattern?
