Hi All, Just got my new EV trike on the road.
It went together rather fast in just 2 weeks! Using my Streamliner t front and
wood/epoxy chassis I added some length, width to and attached a golfcart 2.2hp
transaxle as my 6 hp one had apparently been towed too fast overspeeding it. .
Too bad as that one would eventually got 65-70mph. But
instead stuck with the GC transaxle with VW Rabbit or trailer rims fit for now
running 48vdc nom I got it to 45 mph with some field weakening. And 45mph on
a GC transaxle is about as far as I'm going to push it. So
next I'll add 2 more 120 amphr 12 deep cycle Johnson Controls sold under
Duralast brand to the 4 already there for 45 mph and more range with the field
weakening as a passing gear. Might even go E controller if the one I have
works. Otherwise contactor controllers have
been working fine for me. simple, low cost, reliable and easy to repair even
roadside. I've built the bottom half of the aero cabin body
it'll have in clear epoxy birch looks rather good with a pickup bed for now and
of course my trailer hitch I use to pick up lumber, GC's, washers, etc. Later
as I figure out how to make the doors I'll put the rest of the body on as
winter approaches. Also as can no longer walk any distance from
a charge station to where I need to go I'll have a range extender generator for
unlimited range if I can ever get the carb to work. It looks
like a great low cost EV most anyone could do in wood/epoxy, FG or metal using
a steel MC frame, rear suspension to the transaxle or just weld from the seat
back of a GC to the MC frame. Someone handy with a dead GC and MC
with title could do one for $1k. I did mine for about $50 as I had most
everything in my piles. And since I need to get id of the piles the best way
is make cool EV's with them ;^))
