I've had solar hot water and I currently have solar pool heating and solar PV.
Solar hot water wasn't good in winter. Sure, modern systems are better at that but you end up needing to boost it with instant or storage heating in winter. Solar for your pool is great because you want it when the sun shines. Mine adds a month of extra usable pool time to each end of the season. Occasionally I use the spa heater to heat the pool but that's a $50 hit every day I do it vs a few dollars a day for the pump for the solar.
