Hi Ted, I can't help much with the problem, except to suggest that you probably lifted a commutator bar. I'm not sure what it takes to fix it.
I'm just curious if you know how fast the motor was spinning when the damage happened. I have the same motor in my conversion and it would be good to have another data point on "never exceed" speed.
