I was out and walker-about yesterday getting my routine mild exercise to
keep my CHF heart condition in check, when I finally got to talk to the Volt
plug-in-hybrid (pih) owner in my neighborhood.

They had bought their 2011 Volt used about a year ago, and had been charging
it off level-1 charging (L1 EVSE, see similar)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Voltec-EVSE-Chevy-Volt-charge-controller-charger-/231504798768?pt=Electric_Vehicle_Parts&hash=item35e6c2e430&vxp=mtr
I let them know of the recent recall that was out on their Volt pih.

The drivers (husband and wife) were surprised to learn that the pih would
charge twice as fast off L2 (the Volt only has a half-powered L2 3kW
on-board charger). Obviously, whomever they bought the pih from did not
inform them much about it nor that there were free Volt forums for them to
explore to get answers to many of their questions

Since this was our first chat, I did not want to saturate nor overload them
with information. Though I had a lot to share that would definitely help
them, I could see they were quite new to this whole plugin world. So, I had
to hold my reins back and hope that they would get connected with the Volt
forum to know that they could easily tap into the 240VAC they had and get
the 3kW charge they wanted by using an EVSE that was both level-2&1 able
(see similar)

That idea of a faster charge had peaked their interest as they expressed
that they found they enjoyed seeing how much they could drive their pih in
Electric-only mode. I told them they were not alone as the whole plugin
community enjoys that same 'fun' they do to drive most of their miles from
electrical-power sources. Clearly, by them not knowing of nor using the Volt
forums they were missing out on the bigger-picture where they could network
and be a part of the plugin community.

I had mentioned that there was free (no-cost to use) public EVSE nearby.
Sadly, they too did not know of plugshare.com as a free tool to know where
all EVSE is located. The wife was an app person so, I let her know plugshare
offers apps (both Android and Apple, just click on the Mobile link at the
bottom of the page).

I could see I was at the point where any more tidbits of information would
saturate them, so I moved our conversation to an end by letting them know of
the Silicon Valley Rally in September held at De Anza College in Cupertino,
CA (see some nice pics of last year's EVent)

Its still six months away, but with this weird/odd July-ish warm
temperatures and no rain in March, people will be out and wanting to do
something outside.

My energy level and ability to get out to talk to the public about EVs might
be waning as I get older, but behind the eyes, I still have the same strong
EVangel desire :-)
